JOHN S

I WENT TO RESTART MY COMPUTER AND GOT THE FOLLWOING
MESSAGE.

WINDOWS COULD NOT START BECAUSE THE FOLLOWING FILE IS
MISSING OR CORRUPT;

\WINDOWS\AppPATCH\DRVMAIN.SBD

CAN ANYONE HELP ON THIS MATTER, I HAVE A LOT OF DATA ON
THAT COMPUTER I DO NOT WANT TO LOOSE

I would look at running a system repair - although if you wished you could
install to c:\winxp instead of c:\windows, then boot into your new OS to
recover your data. A repair install or a parallel install, I would choose
repair.

You sure it's not drvmain.sdb ?

reboot and at the initial screen press F8 and select
safemode Command Prompt. If command prompt doesn't
work choose the recovery console. (you may or may not
need to boot from the XP cdrom for this)

Run chkdsk /F
It will check the disk and perhaps fix the problem.
If it doesn't fix it, continue this next step.

When you get the prompt enter CD \ (press enter)
enter DIR DRVMAIN.SDB /S (press enter)

this will search the hard drive and tell you what folder(s)
this file is found in.
If you're lucky it will be in two places
c:\windows\appPatch AND c:\windows\system32\dllcache

If it's in the dllcache enter the following command to copy back to
the appPatch and overwrite the bad or missing file:
copy c:\windows\system32\dllcache\drvmain.sdb c:\windows\appPatch
(press enter)

Are you sure the message didn't have something to do with your Caps
Lock key being superglued down?

All caps is rude, hard to rude, and usually ignored. Learn to post
correctly and you'll get more help.

Wow what a geeky response. Go get laid so you can speak to people without the sarcasm.
