I messed up. I put together a Soyo K7VME motherboard with a XP3000 CPU
but didn't set the jumper and BIOS correctly. The motherboard only
recognizes the XP3000 as a XP2200. So... I installed WinXP Pro
thinking that I would figure out how to configure the computer
correctly to get the CPU speed back to the XP3000. I did. But XP Pro
now crashes with a "\WINNT\SYSTEM32\SYSTEM" corrupted type message. I
guess that that file stores the computer hardware configuration. I had
to boot up in safe mode, mess around and finally got the computer up
and running again (as a XP2200) so that XP would run properly.
I figured out which motherboard jumper to set and which BIOS parameter
to configure so that the XP3000 is recognized as such.
But how do I get XP Pro to work? Reinstalling WinXP is an option but
I'd rather not if possible. Thanks for any suggestions.
