I have a laptop with windows home edition and SP2. I ran this patch to help
performance of my 1394 adapter that I have a buslink dvd burner attached to.
Unfortunately it caused more problems then it helped. When I burn a disc
with Nero the disc is burnt with 100% of the data but it never shows that the
process is complete. This causes Nero to run indefinitely and has to be
aborted then freezes my machine so I have to power off my laptop because it
won't shut down. Is there anything I can do to fix this or do I need to
re-install my operating system?

usually ms os patches come up in add/remove programs - so just remove it.

if you can't do that, you might take a look at:

1. rolling back the driver in system/device manager
2. system restore back before the new software
3. uninstalling the hardware in system/device manager & then reboot & have
plug&pray rediscover it & reload the original software
4. getting in contact with nero & seeing if they have an update to your
version of nero

by the way, although I loathe system restore, this is one case where I turn
it on. better than a reinstall!

hope that helps.
