Hi, i hope someone can help as this problem has been plaguing me for a while
now my computer has:

3.2 Intel P4
1024 RAM
ATI 9100 PRO IGP Series
Windows XP w/ sp2

anythin other info let me kno.. (also i use belkins wireless network utility
dont think this is the problem but is the only program i think i have
installed on the comp from the start)..

basically if i put on a video file (mpeg / avi etc.) it will crash after a
period (everything jus stops no blue screen or nothin jus stops cant move
mouse, no cpu activity etc.) and the only way to fix is to restart, leavin it
for a bit does nothin either.. i was advised to lower the video acceleration
in wmp (im using ver 10 at the mo) but it still crashed.. i have lowered the
monitors colour settin to 16bit which seems to fix the problem but im still
not sure if this is the problem as its crashed before (only once tho so far)
but regardless would still like to get to the bottom of the problem as really
i shouldnt have to use a lesser colour scheme..

also when watchin dvds (was using interwin DVD, which has now bin
uninstalled) it still crashed regardless of the colour settings..

i also checked the event monitor (think thats wat its called) and didnt find
any errors prior to the crash so cant pin point it that way..

any help would be appreciated

Check the video card or chip manufacturers' WEBsites for an updated XP
certified driver. If there are problems, or no improvement, ROLL BACK to
the prior driver.

If you are unfamiliar with this process, consider enlisting help from a
technician or a knowledgable friend.

hello. Ihad the same problem. everytime I would watch a video (mostly
SVCD or XVID) I would use large amount of ram and it would drain my
virtual memry. I tried researching the problem online but when ytou
computer start to run real slow after running for a couple min, its hard
to do. If you noticed that your computer slows down even if your not
playing a video, your noticing large amount of ram being used in aprox 3
min burst (which taps your virtual memory) and youve recently added a
downloaded video (music , movie) file to your computer . then it might me
the indexing .exe that starts when you start your computer. Goto
"START", "CONTROL PANEL", "SYTEM"(if your on category view its "PERFORMANCE
AND MAINTENANCE"), "ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS" click on the "SERVICES" shortcut
and disable the indexing service. Ive already spoke to microsoft about this
in emails and they told me that version of indexing isnt critilcal ,and
ive had no problems disabeling it.

sorry forgot bout that yea i updated the drivers (the drivers infact ask for
minimum of sp1 to be installed so dont think its as simple as that
unfortunately :(

i have recently disabled the indexing service (which is a conicindence) so
ill see if this fixes the problems thanx ill let u kno how it goes

k fort i had the problem beat but jus tried to watch a video clip on a site
and it froze but night before i watched a film with no probs so dont really
get it.. could this have been caused by my computer being on for an extended
period of time? (im only talkin bout this last time as ive restarted my
computer watched something and had it crash same way!!)
