Problem with treeview

Hi! :-)

I have WinXP Pro on a laptop with a 1.6G pentium 4 and 512M of ram at 266mhz.

What is it that makes it take so long to generate a treeview? Is there a
way around the problem?

For example, to generate a treeview for a subfolder that is three deep from
the externally connected by USB hard drive and has only 9 subfolders of its
own takes nearly two minuites.

By comparason, a view of the same subfolder in Windows Explorer or an
open/save window only takes a few seconds to generate.

How do I fix that tree generating problem?

What's a treeview? Do you mean when you're using Windows Explorer (two
panes)?

Like the one that appears on the left when you right click on a folder and
select "explore." There are several places in windows where one will have a
treeview as well as some programs
