Problem with Sony Clie software installation

I recently had some problems with my computer while installing service pack 2
for WinXP. I lost all my system data, meaning that I have had to re-install
the programs on my computer that allow me to sync my Clie. Now, when I try
to install the necessary programs from the supplied installation cd-rom that
came with my clie, I get an error message that reads;

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the
application

I have tried installing other windows applications since, and they work as
usual.

I have talked to Sony and they say this is a windows sourced error

wondering if you can offer any assistance to this problem.
