Please help! I cannot send outgoing mail messages. I
use Outlook Express 6.0. I've tried many different
things on the advice from Dell experts, etc., e.g.
reinstalling Outlook Express, deleting the mcvsescm.exe
file and reinstalling it with a patch from the McAfee
site, changing settings in the Tool bar, and then back
again, allowing attachments to show, making sure that I
do not send out mail with attachments, etc.--all to
naught. The typical error message I get is like the one
below, all with the same Server Error of 550 and the same
Error Number of 0x800CCC79:

The message could not be sent because one of the
recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-
mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'Re: Wash
with care', Account: 'arts.uob.bh',
Server: 'arts.uob.bh', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '550 not local host entergy.com, not a
gateway', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550,
Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Please help, for this has been going on for a month now.
I even tried contacting Microsoft at their phone number 1-
800-936-5700 but all I get is an attempt to connect me
with someone who is never there and an answering machine.

colin

OE is not an Office program. However, you should check your account's outgoing server setting with your ISP. You must have an error in the SMTP server. The acct server should probably not say 'arts.uob.bh' since as far as I know that is not a typical server name--ask your service provider. It should have a .com or .net in it.

Thanks Mary for your suggestion. I will check with my
ISP and see whether I have the correct SMTP server or
not. I have had the same setting for the previous eight
months and all was well until about a month ago. Maybe
something changed. I will check and get back with you.

Well if it worked before & nothing's changed, it might have a different cause. Rejected by server usually means that the recipient email address is incorrect, especially if this happens with only some of your recipients. Call up some of them and see what's wrong. Are you using the correct format for email? no spaces, etc.? Maybe the error is in your address book or your ISP has blocked certain addresses. You should call them and let them help you.
