Problem with IE Content Advisor in Windows XP

I am running IE6 on Windows XP Pro. My problem is that no matter how I setup
Content Advisor in Internet Explorer (Tools, Internet Options, Content) it
fails to block offensive web sites. It used to work at one point, but I'm
not sure it has worked since I upgraded from XP to XP Pro. I also have been
experimenting with several Access Control software program demos, but I
don't know if that could have anything to do with it either.
I have set up Content Advisor rather strictly and told it to block any
unrated page. I experimented with URLs with words like "porn" or "Playboy"
in them and IE went right to them without any protest.
This is ironic, since I upgraded to XP Pro and tried Access Control software
to try to protect my son from porno but it seems like I am going backwards
not forwards.
In troubleshooting this, I went to an ICRA website that had a fix for the
scenario, "Content Advisor is not filtering any sites,..." Unfortunately it
said the solution does not apply to Windows XP or 2000. Just my luck. Can
anyone help me with this?
Thanks in advance. Please read note below. My return address must be
modified to respond to me by email.

Point us to where you read about this fix to Content Advisor. Maybe we can port that for you. But right now the only sure way I know to do this is with a hosts file OR don't let him online when you are not there. Also I hear keeping the computer in a public area in the house is another alternative.

If you go to http://www.icra.org/_en/faq/answers/ you'll find a series of
FAQs. The final OR option of 2.7 comes closest to explaining what I am
seeing. It talks about a corrupted file called ratings.pol. There is a
disclaimer that says the fix does not apply to Windows XP. I searched my C
drive for this file and could not find it. The strange thing is, I know
Content Advisor worked once. My son would call me in and ask me to type in
the password whenever he was trying to access a legatimate site that didn't
have a rating. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Ratings.pol is often a hidden file. Make sure you can see hidden files.

Well if you have no ratings.pol file then I guess that explains why what you want is not working. Can you try to enable... the settings again? Maybe sure you are accepting cookies. When you go to Internet Tools | Content | Enable... | General | Rating Systems do you have an entry there? RSACi?

I have entries for the following rating systems:
IRCA
RASCi
SureSafe Rating Service

I'm thinking that maybe the lack of a ratings.pol file is related to the
caveat about Windows XP referenced earlier.

Content advisor

I was having the same problem and I found a .exe file that will correct the situation. It completely resets content advisor and you will need to set it up again. After saving this file to any place on your pc, simply run it from that folder and make sure internet explorer is closed. Here is the file:

There's a Microsoft program that will reset Content Advisor to its original condition: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/CA-Reset.exe
