Problem with Explorer when right-clicking on a file

When I right-click on any kind of file Explorer takes a very long time to
bring up the menu. If I right-click on any folders the Explorer menu comes
up instantly. I'm lost as to why this is happening. We have two Windows XP
Pro computers in our office that have developed this problem over the last
couple months.

I've checked installed software and that doesn't seem to be a problem. I've
reinstalled IE 6.0sp1 because of a few event log errors. Otherwise the event
log is clean. If you close Explorer while waiting for the menu to appear
then you'll get an Explorer hang error in the event log. Otherwise if you
wait about 2 minutes the right-click menu will either sometimes appear or
just blink quickly and disappear.

Any help would be appreciated!

Anyone have any advice for me? A very weird problem, and it has only
occurred on some of the Windows XP machines in our office. All of our
Windows 2000 Pro machines have not exhibited this problem yet.

Eric, sorry I don't have a solution, but I am having the
same problem on one of my laptops here running XP pro.
When I right-click on shortcuts, folders or anything that
has an exe on the end of it the properties box pops right
up. Right clicking on any other type of files (txt, dll,
doc...etc) hangs the system for about a minute before the
dialog box pops up. Hope we can get some help with this.

Same problem here!!! I've scanned for rogue programs and none exist. A search on the net shows a few others have this too. Almost like it's waiting for something... Hopefully someone figures this out soon!!
