Problem with domains and wireless networks

Hi. I have a tricky question that has me completely stumped. Our employees
travel a lot with their laptops, and often use wireless networks to connect
to the internet (Starbucks, companies they are visiting, hotels, etc.). The
problem is, when they come back sometimes they are unable to log onto our
wired network domain. They can't see the servers, and no matter what I try
they can not log on. I have had to reload the laptops more than once to get
them back on the network. I am fairly sure it is not due to a virus, or
anything like that, because we they have antivirus and firewall software
installed. When I look at the network settings, nothing has changed as far
as IP, DNS servers, gateway, or anything like that.

Does anyone have a clue what could be going on here?

Christine,

I don't have an immediate idea, but if you'd like to try diagnosing the problem,
provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from a problem computer, and from
2 that have no problem. Give us a chance to examine your diagnostics. Read
this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely:

I was able to get both machines working again by creating a LMHOSTS file and
telling them exactly where to look for the PDCs. So, I don't know if posting
the information will help now, as the laptops are working. I really just
wondered if anyone had seen a problem like this before, since it seems to
happen to me every time someone travels.

Christine,

Well, for every different network problem here, there's usually some
characteristic that makes it unique in some way. But if it's working for you,
I'm happy for you.
