problem with DHCP

DHCP will not assign ip address to the clients on the
network. What would be the cause? Using XP Pro and
entering ipconfig at the command prompt, it says "media
not connected". The network is using Netgear's 24 port
switch FSM726S.

What is the problem?
 
Ensure the switch is powered up and the link lights are on on the both sides
(switch/computer). Restore Factory Settings. Start configure the switch
over.

Windows XP thinks that the network card isn't connected to the switch.
Check the cabling and the switch port. Try the tips here:

may sound stupid but have you got the latest drivers?

I had a problem like this and downloading the latest
drivers sorted it....
