Problem with cd-rom drives

I used the windows troubleshooter, but it was unable to fix. Both drives will play an audio cd, but cannot find/ read regular disks. The hardware file said both were working. These drives previously worked. I have the roxio icon on my desktop and it says "No recorder" on it.

Go to:

http://www.dougknox.com/

Select 'Windows Utilies' and scroll down to 'Restore CD/DVD drives to
Windows Explorer.'

Thanks for the link to www.dougknox the windows cd/dvd utility did help the situation but only with one of the 2 cd drives (master & slave)
I'll keep my eyes open and pray that either Microsoft will write a fix for the problem or one will arrive on the dougknox web site

I ended up reverting to a post installation ghost image backup in the end
Needless to say, the customer has had a serious loss in confidence for the Microsoft product
The CD & CDRW drives reverted to their normal activity

I've looked about the newsgroups & there are a number of different Threads that seem to be refering to the same problem
Do you think that there is any chance that this problem might be under-estimated by Microsoft
I can only assume that, due to no obvious reference on Technet, that the upcomming servicepack will not address this issue

Have you heard about a release date anyway

Regarding SP2, I don't know when it will come out, possibly July.
