Problem: Windows XP new instal

OMG,What is up with this!!!!!

I have purchased a copy of Windows XP Pro and Windows XP Home. When I installed both operatin
systems for the first time. Each version was installed on to a new hard drive. The setup fo
both Pro and Home go great and I have no problems.

=) Happ

Time goes by and now I wanted to delete my hard drive and start from scratch. So I put the window
XP Pro CD into the computer and setup starts like normal. I delete all extended partations with n
problem, then try to delete the primary partition. Setup tells me that setup files have been loade
and I can not delete the primary partition. So then I try to fdisk but no luck because this great featur
has been removed. So then I try diskpart with no luck. Then I try to run Fdisk from a copy of Windows 9
that I had, no luck

=| Not Happy

What to do.......... Ah got an idea, I changed my bios to load from CD first. Placed the Windows 98 CD
into the CD Drive and restarted the computer. Setup began and I selected to support large hard drives,
then the party began. A little window poped up and stated "Formatting drive C: 1% of drive formatted". I
about fell out of my seat, scared my girlfriend, and the cat took off running. It was a great moment after
hours of working around this BUG.

After the drive was formated to 100%, I then stoped the Windows 98 setup and started Windows XP Setup.

=P

There has to be an easier way to do this. Would someone please provide an easier solution to this issue. And
please assume the following.

1) There is a registered CD available of either Windows XP Pro or Windows XP Hom
2) Thats it.....

My goodness you have got yourself all confused

No 1: XP Pro has everything that Home has plus a little bit more. So why buy both

With the installations made it is likely that you have partitioned using NTFS. Windows 98 Startup disk is only able to manage FAT32 drives

You can go about your 'rebuild' by buying Partition Magic. This will assist you to resize or alter the number of partitions. Format or whatever you want, using NTFS or FAT32

After the disk management is completed, install XP Pro.

Thanks for the reply BAR but this is not the answer the question. I purchased XP Pro and XP home because I have more than three computers, each needing it's own Operating System. Second when someone buys a full version of XP one would think that they have everything they need. And No Need To Buy Anything Else.

Greetings --

FDisk is an old MS-DOS utility that is neither available or needed
in WinXP.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered
the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of
the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of
boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
