Problem setting deskop appearance

I set my desktop appearance via the control panel to Windows XP style, Color
scheme silver and normal size fonts. Within 5 minutes my computer gets a
mind of its own and alwasy adjust the screen back to a blue background with
color scheme green in large fonts. I have done this exercise every day a few
times for weeks.
I hit apply and save when I change my fonts but they never stick.
Any suggestions

This might work:
1) go to www.lavasoft.de and download ad-aware. Install it.
2) run it
3) if it finds anything, click NEXT and check all boxes or right-clic
SELECT ALL. Then click NEXT again and yes/ok.
Reboot your computer
