i can receive but send returns the email undeliverable
473 (e-mail address removed) relaying prohibited. you must
authenticate first. i have tried authenticating the
outgoing with passwords, turning off the antivirus email
scanning, reloading the entire program, reloading
antivirus program, etc...
i am using outlook 2002 and i do have msn messenger.
outlook is set for email. i do not use msn messenger for
email. i have tried setting up msn for email and still
haven't been able to send emails in outlook. if i send an
email to a computer that is on the server that we use,
they go thru. i select one of the server addresses in the
to field and all of the other addresses in the bcc field
and the one i put in the to field goes thru, but none of
the others. if i send one email to an email address that
is not on our server in the to field, it gets
returned "relaying prohibited".
i have two other computers on the network that have no
problem (one is 98 and other is xp). problem one is xp.

Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated. this is
going on about 4 months now.

You say you've tried authenticating with passwords...does that mean you set
up authentication on the Outgoing Server tab of your mail account? It's not
the same as Secure Password Authentication...

And if you have tried authenticating to the outgoing server with passwords,
try one of the other authentication mechanisms on that Outgoing Server tab.

i've tried all the configurations on the outgoing server
tab. my server requires auth (SMTP), use same settings as
incoming, log on using: user name, password, log on using
SPA, log on incoming before sending, changed the email
address and tried that one, i've even tried SPA on the
email settings (pop3) window. you can just call me mr.
frustrated. all of the other computers do not have a
problem. last night i sent emails with an (e-mail address removed) in
the to field and (e-mail address removed) in the bcc field, and sent
another email with the addresses reversed. the bcc's
didn't show up. the to's did. HELP!

by the way, thanks for taking the time to help me.

How are you connecting to your mail server - is the mail server hosted by
the same ISP that you use to connect to the Internet? The authentication
used by some ISPs is whether you've connected to the Internet via their
dial-up or broadband services, and nothing you do in SMTP can get you
authenticated in that case if you haven't connected to their network.
