problem printing

I have access to my saved document and all options are functional. When I send the document to the printer, i get the message that "it has performed an illegal operation." No connection exist to the printer. The printer works because I ran a test for printing. I have just recovered and upgraded lost data to the Windows and Explorer operations. My Word is the '97 version. Will upgrading correct this problem?
 
Its possible that the driver for your Printer has become corrupt. Try
uninstalling and then reinstalling the present printer driver or obtain new
updated drivers for the printer from the manufacturers website.
