Problem printing emails in Outlook/Exchange VPN setup

I am having a problem printing emails from a Microsoft
Exchange 2003 account when logged in over a VPN
connection. It keeps generating the error message "The
messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the
problem persists, restart Outlook." Please advise.
 
This is a popular problem. Does anyone have a solution? In addition to
printing I am unable to send emails. I have tried the repair function with no
success. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with no success (I even tried
cleaning the registry in between). This is quite frustrating.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this will help you, but I always recommend that VPN/remote users
use an OST file/cached mode & have OL prompt to connect or work offline at
startup - and select "work offline", with scheduled syncs in the background.
Generally much better from a performance standpoint, and if your connection
is disrupted, it doesn't freeze Outlook.
