problem playing midi files

I got a C-Media CMI8738 on board sound card on a soyo sy-k7v dragon plus!
m/b, and for some reason i cant play
midi files through windows media player...... when I go into sounds and
audio devices and then the audio tab, the default midi music playback box is
blank.

If i change anything in the sounds and audio devices properties box and
click ok, the changes are not saved once the box has closed.

Under default device i have the option of selecting 'microsoft GS wavetable
sw synth' or mpu-401' but selecting either of them makes no difference.

Weird thing is as well then when running directx diagnostics it will play
midi files in there.

If someone knows how to keep the setting in sounds and audio devices then
this may well fix the problem but I have been searching for hours so far and
drawn a blank

I have tried latest drivers for m/b and sound card and got all windows
update as well.

Hope someone can help

I have the same problem with midi audio propertyies, it will let me select MS GS wavetable but it will not lock in

Same problem as /who/?! Don't just post "me too" - no one is going to want
to search for the post you're "me tooing" about! Please learn to use Usenet
properly. It really is the height of laziness not to post properly!
