Problem opening OL2003 messages

I have just installed OL2003. Intermittently (99% of the time) when I
double-click to open a message it automatically minimises it onto the task
bar. I then either have to double-click a second time on the message to open
it or click on the minimised message on the task bar. I'm sure this
shouldn't be happening - it cannot be a 'feature'?! I am assuming it's a
problem because occassionally it works as expected.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks

Single click instead of double clicking. You are opening with the first click
and minimizing with the second.

Single click just selects the message?! Sometimes when I double click it
acts 'normally' - opens the message. But other times it minimises. I have
been using Outlook for years and have never seen this until 2003

P.S. Right at this moment, it is behaving as it should. I double-click and
the message opens in front of me. But all day long it has been mimising it
instead. All day yesterday it minimised as well. But occassionally it goes
back to what I think it should be doing. This must be a problem?

Just to clarify further, even if I right-click over a message and chose Open,
it will minimise it rather than opening it. I have just closed down Outlook
and reopened it and it has gone back to this behaviour, having briefly
behaved normally.

try changing your mouse

How would that help? Double-click and right mouse click Open works
everywhere else but Outlook - and even then it works intermittently. If I
close down OL and reopen, the very first email I open usually opens
correctly. After that, it fails. Even if I open up an email and click on
the downward/upward arrows to move through items, it minimises each one onto
the task bar so I then have to open up each one again! It's really weird.

I was hoping someone else had seen the problem and would have a solution -
but it's now not looking very hopeful.

This is really bizarre but I think I've solved it.

It's to do with the toolbars. If I have 3 rows of toolbars at the top, the
emails get minimised on Open. If I remove a toolbar, this behaviour doesn't
happen.

It had been intermittent because I kept moving the Standard Toolbar into the
bottom row - and this is when the problem started. Each time I closed down
Outlook, it moved back to the previous row - and then the problem went away.
I just hadn't connected creating the third toolbar with the behaviour.

It's OK if I move the 3rd toolbar to the margins.

This must be a bug?!?
