Problem Loading Software

I've been trying to load a program onto my computer (XP) ...every time I
click the install icon I get this message:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT...The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the
application...... Can anyone please help!!!!

Does it also say 16 bit windows subsystem? if so try,
