Windows refuses to install onto my AMD64. It has both a SATA drive and an
EIDE harddisk. The EIDE drive is set up to be the primary master, and
because I know Windows hates SATA drives I disconnected it while trying to
install. When ever I try to boot from my DVD drive the initial start looks
fine ie, the words "analyzing system settings" or whatever appear, but before
it even gets into the second part of the install it hangs and leaves me with
a blank screen and no disk activity. HELP!

Windows does not have any trouble with SATA drives in my experience. However
if you want to install to the EIDE drive as Disk 0 [C:\] and also use the
SATA drive as Disk 1[D;\] you will do best leaving your SATA drive connected
..

Set your bios so that IDE is the primary channel and the EIDE disk is the
second boot option with your DVD drive the first. You should make sure that
the SATA drive is not connected via a RAID controller.
Then reboot without the CD in the drive and in the first bios screen make
sure that both hard disks are recognised.
Provided they are put the Windows CD in the drive and reboot and you should
be OK.

That's funny - I have four SATA drives and no problems at all - where on
earth did you get the ridiculous notion that "Windows hates SATA drives" -
all you need is a floppy with the SATA driver and you're good to go.

HI,

I'm having a similar problem, the computer hangs just before the "welcome to
setup screen".
I've tried everything from changing hardrives and cdroms, stripping
everything but essential components and nothing worked.
I even intalled Xp on my hardrive through a friends computer, but when I
reinstalled the hardrive on mine, I could'nt enter windows. The system
crashed and rebooted just after going through the boot sequence.

I have a AMD AthlonXP 1600+ and MSI K7T266 pro motherboard. The rest seems
irrelevent.

I bringing my computer to a repair shop seeing how it has been a week and I
can't seem to find the problem.

I'll keep you posted on any info they give me.
