Problem installing WinXP Home on SATA Drive

Hi,

I recently built a new PC system based on the ASUS A7N8X-
Deluxe motherboard. I decided to use SATA as a means
of "future proofing" my machine (as best one can). When I
attempt to install windows, the setup program tells me
that it cannot find any drives to install on despite the
SATA driver picking up my two drives. Nowhere (ie. on the
internet nor in the manual) has ASUS commented about SATA
support accept to say they can be RAIDed and have priority
when booting (hence no need for BIOS support). So, why
can't I install WinXP? Do I need to RAID the two drives
together first? I would have thought you don't have to
given SATA will take over from ATA.

I have the EXACT same problem. I need to install Windows
XP onto my new SATA drive, but it won't show as an option
during installation! I also posted a topic about this. If
someone could enlighten us it would be most appreciated.

I've done a little more researching into this problem and
it appears the main problem is poorly written motherboard
manuals. The manual for my ASUS board never comments on
the need to install 'Third Party RAID or SCSI drivers',
rather, it merely states it is compatible with WinXP.
I've downloaded the latest drivers to my board's SATA chip
and saved them to floppy (the original drivers I've since
discovered on the CDROM that accompanied my mobo) so I can
then install them using the F6 function. I'll post the
outcome.

Well, first you need to boot to xp cd,the text will
appear:"if sata or raid drivers
need installation press F6 now".This installs the
drivers for xp,for the rest,go to:

I have the same problem but have progressed a little
further. I downloaded the most recent SATA files for the
A7N8X Deluxe motherboard from ASUS, unzipped them, and
then copied the files from the top directory onto a
floppy. When installing XP, I pressed F6, as has been
suggested by other. When the prompt came up for a new
mass storage device, I put the floppy in and hit Enter.
I was then able to see my full SATA disk and partition
it. Unfortunately, when I go to the next step, the
program tells me that it is "not an XP-compatible
partition" and says to return to the previous screen. I
am not sure what to do from here. Any ideas?
