A friend of mine brought me his computer, the hard drive
crashed with multiple harware failures. No problem
right ? wrong. I bought a western digital WD400 40 gb
hard drive new. I installed the hard drive, and then,
just like I have many times before on gateways, (as I own
13 of them) I attempted to start the set up with the
windows xp (sp1) cd boot disks, 6 in all.
When the computer starts loading the necessary drivers,
it always hangs somewhere in the process, and as I have
never had this problem before, I have no idea what may be
wrong.
I downloaded the latest bios update and ran it
sucessfully, still no change, I checked the pin setting
on the drive, no problems there, I replaced the IDE cable
with a new one, still no change, I flashed the bios, then
reinstalled it, still no change, can anyone tell me what
might be wriong, the computer stats are as follows :
Gateway Micro ATX BRY
Essential 866
256Mb Ram
DVD Rom
CDRW
40gb Hard drive (Unformatted) Ultra ata 100 capable
