Does anyone no why my computer keeps shutting itself down.
Just before this happens a dialogue box appears saying a
remote procedure call has failed and the system will shut
down in 60 seconds.

It seems you've been infected by the Blaster-virus / worm.
You should go to the microsoft site and get the patch or visit the site of
symantec (www.symantec.com) and download the removal tool.

You need the patch described here to protect against it:

Problem is, you needed to install the patch BEFORE you got infected to avoid
it.
