Problem editing email messages

In Outlook 2003, I have a problem with editing an email message. It happens
most often when I am trying to edit a message before I forward it.

Let's say I am trying to forward a message about an appointment, adding to
the message the comment, "I hope you can attend the meeting, too." When I
try to start typing "I hope", instead of getting "I hope" my name appears in
brackets in a different font. If I delete it and keep retyping, I can
eventually just get the "I hope..." to appear, that I want. But it takes
repeated efforts.

I will appreciate advice as to how I can correct this.

Thanks, that did it. But one more thing, please. How do I prevent the font
color of my text from changing when I edit a message before forwarding it?

That is the reply font and color which you can set in Tools-> Options-> tab
Mail Format-> button Fonts
