problem converting from XP Home to XP professional

I have a Toshiba laptop which came with XP Home. I
purchased XP Professional. During installation, I had to
hit cancel. XP Professional nows shows as an OS option at
start-up(with a gray loading bar instead of green) and
tries to load. However, since the program is not fully
installed it cannot complete loading.

I have already tried re-installing from the CD but each
time it shuts down my computer. I probably need to remove
the half installed version of Pro, but don't know how to
do it. Once I get that out, I can probably reinstall Pro
correctly.

I went to MS web support for help, but when I put in the
MS XP Pro product key, the field was too short and it
wouldn't accept the key so I couldn't get online support.

Can anyone tell me how to get the incomplete version of XP
Pro off of my system so I can reinstall it correctly?

Thanks

Hello
Are you trying to install a full version or an upgrade

But either way the install CD has all the necessary tools
to do a full install, the only differance is the upgrade
will ask for you to put in a previous version of windows
CD,(just to prove you owned a previous version)so if you
have an older version(restore CD's do not count) on CD do
a full download with the upgrade CD,just boot from the CD
when asked to Press any Key to Boot from CD hit a key and
just read and press enter and it will walk you through to
deleteing or old files and reformating of the new OS.
about halfway through the install your puter will restart
and you will see the Press any Key to boot from CD
message this time do not hit any key and it will finish
installing.
Hope this helps
Jim
