Just to mention that Regedit.exe need to be renamed as regedit.com as none of the .EXEs run. This can be done thru Command Prompt (command.com)

Hi Spater,
D/load Doug Knox's EXE File Association Fix from here:
http://dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm
Since you may not be able to d/load it or unzip it using the "problem"
computer, you could extract (unzip) the xp_exe_fix.reg file to a floppy
disk. Put the floppy disk in the "problem" computer, then go to Start>Run
and key in A:\xp_exe_fix.reg then click on OK or hit ENTER. Click on Yes to
add the information to the registry.
Now, open the registry editor (Start>Run key in regedit then click on OK or
hit ENTER). Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Run
In the right-hand pane, locate and delete the entry or entries that say
RealUpdater = "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\REALUPD.EXE"
Now, navigate to:
HKEY_USERS>.DEFAULT>Software>Microsoft> Windows>CurrentVersion>Run
In the right-hand pane, locate and delete the entry or entries that say
RealUpdater = "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\REALUPD.EXE"
Close the registry editor.
Restart the computer.
Regards,
