After I loaded Windows XP service Pack 1 my computer has
slowed to a crawl.
It's slow loading programs, updates etc..
Is there a patch or fix to solve this problem, I know I'm
not alone because I know a feww people with this problem.
Thanks

I think I have the same problem as you. I find that if I reboot everyday it
helps. Also, everytime I reboot I get a "Message App - End Task" message.
Do you see the same symptoms?

The files on your hard drive may have become fragmented,
due to all the updates you've downloaded, SP1, and the
applications you've installed. Try running XP's disk
defragmenter: Click on Start, then go to Accessories->
System Tools-> Disk Defragmenter. Also, installing more
memory might help. (The more memory your have, the more
code XP can keep memory resident, thus averting constant
reloads from disk.). If you have "only" 256MB, consider
upgrading to 512MB. (My computer speeded up a whole
lot when I upgraded 512MB.)

If you are on the NTFS filesystem you may have a badly
fragmented directory. There are defragmenters like
Diskeeper which can do a boot-time defrag of the MFT and
directories. WinXP does eventually speed up after
installing SP1 but the slowdown is due to the OS sorting
out the update.
