Hi
I have a laptop HP Pavilion ZV5420CA it has 3.0g pentium processor , 512mg
of ram 128M of this is used for shared video. My graphics is ATI Mobility
Radeon 9000 IGP. All the latest update for Windows XP home ed. and all
drivers are up to date.
I tried to installed 1Gg module (ultra PC 2700 SODIMM) , this meant to
removed the 512 module because only one slot is available , I think.
When I restarted the laptop everything went good, Windows started, all
programs in startup , started ok, network connected then maybe 30 seconds
after system crash to black screen ( kind like DOS) and only lasted for 2 or
3 seconds so I did not have time to read what was written. Then system
rebooted again, with the same result. After multi tries I reinstalled the
512Mg module and everything got back to normal.
Next I put in the 1Gg module and the same problem, then I booted in Safe
mode, then things worked ok and I verified that my added ram was indicated
which it was, 1.12Gg. I tried different things but not being an expert did
not know exactly what to look for. After retrying a normal boot the same
problem occur. Any help on this would be appreciated. I went thru different
newsgroups and a similar problem of a desktop had to do with the graphics
card, could this be my problem because of the shared video. TIA

You either bought the wrong memory for your motherboard and/or the
memory is bad. Refer to your motherboard manual or to HP tech support
for exactly what memory your motherboard supports.

To test the memory, use Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org.

Thanks Carey , hp found the answer I had a second memory location under the
keyboard and new memory had to be install there, which I did and that fixed
the problem, now I'm the proud owner of 1.248 ghz ram and it is working, grin?
