Problem accessing the Contacts folder

I keep getting the following error message:

"The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated
with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or
deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information on how to remove
this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Outlook Help."

I looked in the Outlook Help but did not find anything that seemed to help.

I don't recall all the situations in which this error has occurred, but the
present time, it happened when I was trying to create a mail rule.

My contacts are in the regular, default place, as far as I understand: in
the "Outlook Today [Personal Folders]/Contacts" folder. I brought most of
them over from Outlook Express when I recently migrated, but because the
migration was a little imprecise, I output them from OE as comma-delimited,
edited them slightly in Excel, and imported them as comma-delimited to
Outlook.

Btw, my contacts synchronize correctly with my iPaq, which leads me to think
that they're in the proper place and working right.

Can anyone shed some light on this and/or suggest a webpage that describes
how to use the Contacts folder(s) properly?

It seems that Outlook Address book sometimes mixes up the entry IDs of the
folder or EntryIDs get invalid if pst files are renamed or moved. Go to
tool/accounts or tools/options and find the Outlook Address book provider
then delete all address book entries and restart Outlook. After Restart
(eventually need restarting the process mapisp32 also) go to properties of
the contact folders and re-add the contact folders in the tab "Outlook
address book".

Remove the Outlook Address Book service from your mail profile (Tools>E-mail
Accounts>View or change existing directories or address books>Next), stop
and restart Outook, then add the service back in. After doing so, enable
the Contacts folder as an address book (right-click
Contacts>Properties>Outlook Address Book, check "Show this folder as an
e-mail Address Book").
