I have a problem getting a 2nd PC to access the main pc when using quickbooks
Pro 2003. I have checked all settings with Quickbooks first and they are
right. It appears that the shared folder on the primary machine has a read
only setting on it and although I have removed it and clicked apply when re
opening the folder it is still read only. This problem is stopping the
remote machine accessing the folder. Doeas anyone know the solution to this
please ????.

I have now virus scanned both PC,s which have Computer Associates E Tust
installed and both are clean. I have also run Lavasoft ADaware on both which
found a few critters and they were removed. Still can't access Machine 1
from machine 2 and read only attribute on shared folder which is in all users
on Machine 1 still refuses to stay removed.

Funnily enough I tried accessing machine 2 from machine 1 and it works ???.
Now very confused and hacked off. Help please ???

Try creating identical user accounts/passwords on both machines. Make
sure all firewalls are properly configured to allow lan traffic as
Trusted. Make sure there is only one firewall running on each machine,
remembering that Service Pack 2 automatically enables the Windows
Firewall. If that doesn't help, run through this network troubleshooter

Thanks Malke,

I'll try what you suggest although I am fairly sure both have only one
firewall on as I am aware of XP's automatic Firewall and did switch it off so
E Tust took its place. it won't do any harm to double check though.

Thanks for giving me some plan to follow. i'll post back with results.
