Problem accessing my archived files

I have Office 2000 running on XP home. I have been trying
to retrieve some archived files from Outlook. When I go to
import and export it says " MS Outlook has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
It then asks if I would like to send a report which I have
done some 20 plus times now.
I tried detect & repairing to no avail. I then deleted
Office and re-isnstalled it, but it didn't give me the
option of connecting to my .PST file. It just opened as
though nothing had happened with all my files and folders
still there.
I continue to get the same message when I click on the
import/export.
Can anyone help me?
