I can't seem to find the command to take me to the DOS
prompt. Somewhere along the line it seems to have
disappeared. It's no longer present anywhere under the
Start/Programs bars, and I can't find it on my C: drive.
Any suggestions???

Start >All Programs >Accessories >Command Prompt or
Start >Run and enter the word Command or CMD

Problem 2: there is no DOS prompt in XP. DOS doesn't exist in XP.
XP was not built on top of DOS like 9X/ME. DOS is dead.

There is a command line interface (CLI) windows (use start/run/cmd)
that resembles a DOS windows, and will run many DOS commands/programs,
but remember that it is NOT DOS.

Correction. MS-DOS is dead. That is the name of the operating system.

DOS is a generic term for a disk operating system. The command prompt
window would qualify under the terminology of a "disk operating system."

Fine, nit-pick if you want.
