My laptop recently had a Windows XP hicup, and will now
not allow me to boot the system. I gets stuck in the
MUP.SYS section when starting, even in safe mode, it does
the same. The problem i have is that because my user
account is private i can't access the information if i
make this drive a slave on another computer system so as
to retrieve my info. If could get my Compaq laptop to
boot into windows i would be extreemly happy. This boot
problem just happened. All i can say is when things work
Microsofts software is ok. But when things like this
happen I get the shits with Microsoft, because they can't
get their programs to work properly.
Has anybody got any suggestions please.
I have looked on microsofts site for why the computer is
hanging when it is loading MUP.SYS but have had no
success. I have installed a new hard disk in the laptop
and it is working fine. so it is definatly a software
problem.

Bill,

At this point, your only real option is a reinstall (since your OEM version
of XP won't do a repair install). To access your files by putting the
drive in another computer, See Help and Support and search for "take
ownership"
