I have this pop up that was somehow downloaded to my
computer. It comes up on the lower right hand corner of
the screen in the area of the clock. I close it and it
comes back. The 'Get privacy Protection Link blinks and
goes nowhere. The get the full story link goes to an
article about internet provacy. This publisher has a
disclaimer saying that the link in unauthorized and they
do not know how to get rid of the ad. The last link
says 'Continue What I was Doing' when you choose this the
add drops out of sight and then reappears about ten
seconds later.
Anyone have any ideas?

Greetings --

It sounds like you've installed some sort of ad- or spy-ware.

To deal with pop-ups caused by any sort of "adware" and/or
"spyware,"such as Gator, Comet Cursors, Xupiter, Bonzai Buddy, or
KaZaA, and their remnants, that you've deliberately (but without
understanding the consequences) installed, two products that are
quite effective (at finding and removing this type of scumware) are
Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.de and SpyBot Search & Destroy from
http://security.kolla.de/. Both have free versions. It's even
possible to use SpyBot Search & Destroy to "immunize" your system
against most future intrusions. I use both and generally perform
manual scans every week or so to clean out cookies, etc.
