When switching to a Restricted User in Windows XP Home Edition I get an error when trying to print a document. When I make the Restricted User an Administreator it works. What can I do?

Might be helpful to tell us what the error is. And what kind of printer you
have.

Good point Robert. Here are the details

Canon Multipass printer C3500. When I try to print as a Restricted User I get a message box named "Canon BJC_4300" with the message "Error occurred during file creation". Makes no difference what I'm trying to print

When I print from an old Windows 95 machine to the shared printer as "Guest" it works fine.

Any ideas

Ok, first of all, we can assume everyone has permission to use the printer;
this is the default for XP Home I think, and it really isn't the kind of
thing that you change without noticing!

Next thing to ask is that when you print in Windows normally with a normal
driver, it usually prints with no fuss, bother, windows in the corner to
announce the second coming of the ink left in your printer, etc... does the
canon one have one of these kinds of deals, or does it print quietly when
you print as admin? You might try looking on their website to see if they
mention this problem on the support pages, or if they offer a "network user"
driver.

As you can probably tell, I suspect the problem is the print driver is
trying to be a bit fancy and is attempting to do something that a normal
user doesn't have permission to do.

it sounds as if the driver is trying to make its temp files in a place
that the restrticted user does not have access to. I'd look for a driver
update, first at the cannon site, then if you have to via windowsupdate.

I think you may be right. I do have the latest and only Canon driver for this device. Let me explore some more.
