Printing pause

How do I disable printing pause? Every time I go to print
something it is automatically "paused". I need to go to
printer task and press "resume" to "pause" then back
to "resume" again to get print activity. With Windows 98
everything simply printed as needed and never pausing
unless commanded. What a royal disappointment with my new
Windows XP. Dah! Windows! I hope there is a solution!

More info needed Jean,

How is the printer connected to the PC?

What make and model printer?

Was this is clean install of XP or an upgrade from another O/S?

How do I disable the pause that XP home sometimes imposes, but which
doesn't show up as a pause? Sometimes the print spooler holds my files
for hours before releasing them to the printer. This is XP Home, just a
standalone PC with no network.

It doesn't always do this - maybe 20% of the time?

And the print job is sometimes released when the computer reboots.
Though it obviously shouldn't be necessary to reboot the computer just
to print a document!
