printing issues

Hi...Am having problems printing using the lpt1 port [parallel cable] - the
PC [running XP] can 'see' the printer however when printing simple text it
prints garble text - pages and pages of it even tho its a 1 line sentence
I'm trying to print. Have removed/re-installed the driver pre-XP compat and
the XP compat driver, with no success. Used the XP Help/Support as well.
This printer was working fine a few weeks ago.

Any ideas? TIA

I have seen bad cables and or switch boxes and or LAN converter boxes
cause a problem as well as the hardware interface on either the printer or
the computer.
