hello

when I attempt to print an envelope in word 2002, it acts like it is
printing and I get an envelope with "next record" and "address " on the
envelope instead of a address and return address. version of word ins word
2002 10.4524.4219 on a windows 2000 machine sp4. any ideas of how to resolve
or where to start. I have checked all my settings and nothing seems out of
line.

thank you

It sounds as if the "envelope" you're printing is a mail merge main
document, or that you have created an envelope from a letter that is a mail
merge main document (so that even though you are seeing text, it merely
represents merge fields).

thank you for the reply,

that is what I thought but how does one check or turn off the document being
in a mail merge position. ?

Is this a mail merge?

Uncheck tools > options > print > field codes.

Return address uses the tools > options > user information address, so
ensure that it is available - for more versatile methods of inserting a
return address, see - http://www.gmayor.com/Alternative_Return_Addresses.htm

From the Tools menu, select Mail merge and in Section 1 of the helper,
select the option for Restore to Normal Word Document.

I have checked all recommendations from this group, nothing is checked or
needed to be changed in any of the fields or tabs under the options. I am
still getting the same printing of "address block" & "next records", do I
have to delete my normal.dot to remove this setting? is there any way to fix
this error. thanks to all who replied.

The settings in tools options are retained in the Word data key in the
registry, and the printing of field codes is determined by the switch posted
in my earlier message. You could try backing up then deleting the registry
key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Data (settings sub
key)
