Printers and Faxes control panel locks up

Hi,


I have a laptop (WinXP home = up to date)
which works fine except I can no longer print.
In Printers and Faxes control panel 2 printers are installed
but I can't print on both.
When opening printer properties or other items in
this Control Panel it locks up or silently disappears.


No crash message Event Logs.
RAM check: OK.
Disk check: OK
Removed Bearshare, Zango, some other spyware but at no avail.
Office 2003, Ad-aware and Avast AV present.


Any clues ?

That's what makes it though. No crash entries in Events Views.
Is there no other "secret" logfile for control panels?
