Printer will not work with Windows XP Home Edition

I have a problem with a Compaq Presario 6000 that I
bought 4 months ago which runs under Windows XP. I have
a Compaq A1000 printer that will not work with my
Presario. I gave up and this past Friday bought a
Brother MFC-5100C, which also does not work. I have
spent many hours troubleshooting this problem and
downloading drivers without success. I finally connected
both printers to my Compaq Presario laptop which runs on
Windows 98, and both printers work fine! Does anyone
know how I can solve this connectivity problem?

Did you do complete uninstalls and reinstall of the printer following the
instructions at
http://www.coribright.com/Windows/Article one.htm

Step 4 is the MOST important step. Missing it out simply results in your
reinstalling the older corrupted drivers that probably caused the problem in
the first place.
