Printer Tray Icon

I recently got my computer checked out and the person told me that the reason
my printer is not working fast with USB 2.0 is that it is an HP printer and
that all the little goodies that HP turns on when it tries to print, simply
cripples my cpu. Apparently, it uses almost 99% of the CPU just to print. He
said a way to fix this would be to turn off the HP printer tray icon. How
could I do this? I realize this has to do with HP printers, but I figure that
it may have somewhat to do with the XP printer settings as well. Can anyone
help with generally reducing the CPU usage when I print? Thanks in advance!

The Printer "Watchdog" applet in the System Tray isn't the issue. While it
is
not necessary, most printer software installs something. Most well behaved
ones only show up when a print job is queued up. First & Foremost you
need the latest drivers for the printer. You also need to check that the
service
Print Spooler is running. Also print jobs have a Priority level assigned
them,
if it's too high the print job will override other vital PC functions. Hard
to
guide you to a definitive solution - but the Driver update should help.

Driver update? They have updated drivers that don't use all the CPU? The guy
at the store told me that HP hasn't fixed the problem yet.... Ok, I'll check
it out. Is there anywhere or anyone htat CAN help me to that definate
solution you are talking about?

At what store ? - If the printer doesn't work up to your expectations,
then take the HP back and get yourself a reliable Canon Pixma.

Not to be facetious, but there are lots of Technical support people
who'll fix it in exchange for a little cash. It would help in postings to
actually tell us the model # of the printer. Then someone, may do a
little research on your behalf.

I wouldn't let an HP Printer get hooked to anything I own. They
have a well-known reputation for writing lousy/poor drivers. Besides
that you can almost buy a new Ink Jet for what HP charges for the
replacement cartridges.

Its an officejet 5510 all-in-one... It uses #56 and #57 cartidges and they
are VERY inexpensive right now, costing only about $50 CDN and they always
seem to come with a set of paper (photo, regular printer, etc.) at the value
of about $10-15 CDN so its not that bad. To buy another all-in-one (fax, copy,
scan, etc.) and set-up the fax every time I need a new cartidge would suck.
The lousy drivers thing you said is the exact same thing the local computer
store (IBC computers) told me. They ARE reliable, unlike most local computer
stores because they custom build there own machines and they all have a
pretty high degrees and everything. Plus, I'm only 15.... What kind of local
computer store man would rip-off a friendly kid?
