Printer problems

I have two printers... my newer one stopped printing black
so after the usual head cleaning and changing catridge,
still only printing colour. Put old one back on and it is
doing the same thing so I am assuming it is a problem with
the pc...
Any ideas anyone?
Would appreciate it as trying to set up business and need
to do lots of letters!!

Better to assume that it is a problem with the printer.. go to the
manufacturer web site for clues..

I agree with that partly. I recently picked up an Epson Stylus CX6400
for $35. Now it is worth it to buy the ink cartridges since it is a
really nice printer. I also agree with Mike that you should head over
to your printer maker's website since it is probably something to do
with their drivers. I am wondering if you have a setting selected that
only prints color. I do not have that option on mine, but instead have
a printer black ink only. I would also check both of the printers to
make sure that the black ink cartridge is snugly plugged in.

Try uninstalling the printer software and removing them from Device
Manager (Click Start-Run-Type devmgmt.msc). Right click on the printer
and choose uninstall. I doubt it will fix the problem, but it is worth
the try.

I have tried this but only have answers for the printer
refusing to print colour!
Maybe the cheap new printer is the answer - but I am in
England and I don't think I've seen them that cheap!

I was given a Canon printer some time ago because it was not working.. I
replaced the cartridges and carrier, and for a while it worked.. it stopped
eventually, and wanted a new carrier and cartridges again.. nuts to that.. I
bought an HP 5150.. smokin printer.. PC World in the UK are selling them
instore for GBP 70.00 or the HP 5650 for GBP 80.00 on the web only..
cartridges are not overly cheap but last much longer than other
manufacturers, and you get a new print head each time..

To save money with any inkjet printer, reset the default
print quality to draft or high speed, the normal setting
wastes a lot of ink. On my HP 882c and 3820 the draft mode
looks great. Your ink will last 2 to 3 times as long.
