Printer is OK, cable is OK, but I can't print anymore

I have a PC with win200 installed two times on two different hard
disks in a dual boot configuration.

The first win2000 installation is OK, I can print without problems.
But with the second win2000 installation I cannot print anymore.

Of course the hardware is OK, because I can print with the first
system, thus the problem is in win2000, but where?
I can just add that after the win2000 login I get the standard
message:

"new printer found...install driver?"

I install the driver, but the printer still does not work.

The printer is an HP Laserjet 1100 and the driver is updated

Any suggestion?

Thank you for replying

Try a generic printer driver. The "HP LaserJet Series II" driver
works well for most HP laser printers (even though it won't
give you any of the interactive stuff).

IT WORKS!!! :-o

Thank you for your help. But why the original driver does not work?

There must be a flaw with the driver you used, and it
consistently failed to install. I have seen this before.
You now have two options:

a) Find an updated driver for you HP LJ1100, maybe from the
HP site.

b) Use a close match to this driver.

mhhh??? But the same driver works correctly on the other win2000
installation!

Anyway this morning, after booting I discovered that win2000 detected
a new printer (!) and asked to install the appropriate driver for HP
Laserjet 1100, although I had already installed the "HP LaserJet
Series II" driver (that works fine).

Now the current status is that I can print, but after each boot I have
to quit the PnP driver installation of win2000.

Any further suggestion?

Thank you for your help.

The same suggestion as before: Try a close match to your HP LJ 1100.
