I am installing a new printer and the software provided says to disable the anti-virus program. How do I disable the anti-virus program and then retrieve after printer installation?

'Systray' is now called the notification area in XP. Its the location on the
bottom right of your screen next to the time. Various icons show up there
depicting the fact that the programs represented by the icons start up
automatically when you start up Windows.

In any event, different icons act differently when you right click on the
icon. When you right click on McAfee's icon, it doesn't provide a choice to
'disble'. But it does give a choice to 'exit' (or stop) the program from
running.

Do NOT disable or stop any anti virus program you are running while
connected to the Internet. Wait till you log off.

I'm sorry, I'm not very computer literate. I tried right clicking all my
antivirus icons but they did not have "disable" as one of the choices. What
is the systray?the anti-virus program. How do I disable the anti-virus program and then
retrieve after printer installation?

The systray is at the bottom right of your quick launch toolbar where the clock
resides. It should have an icon of your anti-virus application. You can disable it
too by opening the program and clicking disable. (Auto Protect). What virus program
are you using?

Thanks to all. I finally figured it out. I am using McAfee. After clicking on the icon, I then clicked on 'virus scan' and there it had the option to disable. Thanks again.
