printer and scanner

How can I install my hp photosmart 7350 and my hp scanjet 4400c in windows
xp,these are not listed under printers or scanners in xp windows and before
mind crashed I had them working on xp window and now have reinstalled and
they do not want to connect. (e-mail address removed)
 
Did either of the HP machines come with their own software? If not, you may
need to get updated drivers from http://www.hp.com Normally you can search
with your model number and choose drivers designed for XP.

Good, that's the first step: having the right drivers.

Now let's take the next small step: install the drivers. Do this
following the directions that came with your hardware.
 
Power off, unplug both devices, and power on.
Install the software that came with you printer.
Power off, plug in the printer, and power on.
What happens?
 
Ran into similar with HP PSC product after installing SP2. Required
uninstalling the HP PSC software, and it accompanying printer driver
software. Gleaning the registry, and installing the newer driver for XP SP2
version from the HP website, then the PSC software.
