print to overlay

Can word print to an overlay, I have an a file copy of an invoice on my pc I
would like to type data on to a word document and when I print word will add
this overlay
file.

If I understand you correctly, you want to superimpose same data -- customer
name and address, line items, invoice total, etc -- onto an image of your
blank invoice. While there are ways to do this, it will be a lot more work
that creating a proper template or form and using that. Stick to the simple
methods that Word was designed for.
