Print to File is Disabled how do I enable it

I often print documents to a File to save copies, on the Windows Vista
Computer when I go to the print preview, the print to a file check box is
Grayed Out, and will not let me check it, to print to a file.

I succeeded in printing to file using Vista.

At first it failed because I tried to print quickly to the root of the c:\
when I switched to a directory, it allowed me to print
