Windows XP Pro
Print Spooler is set to Automatic, but Spooler does not
start when system boots. In Services, I start the Spooler.
Not until then does the printer (HP952C) appear in the
screen generated by Control Panel | Printer/Faxes and the
printer become available.
Why isn't 'Automatic' enough to start Spooler?

It should be. Try a System File Check. From the Command Prompt, type:

sfc /scannow
(note space between c and /)

Cari,
I tried sfc /scannow. It didn't indicate that it restored
any files (maybe it did but modestly refrains from tellin
me).
Print spooler still doesn't start until forced manually.
Thanks, Harry

I have the same issue. Tried the system file check as
recommended by another party to no avail. Still have to
start manually. Were there any hotfixes that addressed
anything related to the Print Spooler that I overlooked?

You might find my post at the biggining of September helpful. Search for
Service Control Manager and read my fix in the third post.
