Hi,
I dont get any error message at all, just nothing happens.
Right click on the printer\click properties\nothing!
If I right click the printing preferences, a box opens with "printer" at the
top, in the box is a red X and "operation could not be completed".
The share printer also does nothing.
All other options do as required (open, set default, rename etc
This applies to my HP printer and the adobe PDF printer icon and foxit
printer icon as well.
hope this is enough info?

You experience problems when you view a printer's properties in Windows XP

Went through the printui.dll and verified each DLL it referenced. Seems the
problem was with compstui.dll being zero (0) bytes in length.

Solution

1. delete compstui.dll
2. Windows File Protection will ask you to insert your XP disk
3. WFP will then reinstall compstui.dll
4. Properties now displays

Hello,

Sorry, will be more clear this time. Ensure you have your XP disc with you..

1) Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and delete the file compstui.dll
2) After you delete, wait a while and Windows File Protection should appear
3) Insert your XP cd and click on Retry
4) After it is done, check and see whether it works.

Another thing you can try is to go to

Start > Run > SFC /SCANNOW > OK

Ok lets see now.
I could only find the compstui.dll file in
windows\system32\dllcache\compstui.dll
I gather this is the right one.
Also while doing a search for it I also found the same file on f drive
I find this odd as I dont have an f drive! Tells me its a 7or so gig hard
drive.
i only have 2 drives installed, a 20 and a 80 gig.
Could this be causing some of the problem do you think?
The windows file protection never showed up either

Hello,

The file should be in C:\WINDOWS\system32, the dllcache is the one Windows
File Protection uses for its backup.

Your F drive could be the drive with the XP cd in - you can right-click the

Sorry, can't advise further. Perhaps you might want to search in Google

File Protection uses for its backup.

Your F drive could be the drive with the XP cd in - you can right-click
the
file in the search results and click open containing folder.

Sorry, can't advise further. Perhaps you might want to search in Google
groups deeper. Good luck.

I got into file protection through sfc/scannow and it did all the
stuff I
gather it should have done.
Unfortunatly stil the same problem
I checked that the compstui file was not there before file protection
and
then that it was there after so this has really got me curious now
Steve

:

Ok lets see now.
I could only find the compstui.dll file in
windows\system32\dllcache\compstui.dll
I gather this is the right one.
Also while doing a search for it I also found the same file on f
drive
I find this odd as I dont have an f drive! Tells me its a 7or so gig
hard
drive.
i only have 2 drives installed, a 20 and a 80 gig.
Could this be causing some of the problem do you think?
The windows file protection never showed up either
Not sounding good
Steve

:

Hello,

Sorry, will be more clear this time. Ensure you have your XP disc
with
you..

1) Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and delete the file compstui.dll
2) After you delete, wait a while and Windows File Protection
should
appear
3) Insert your XP cd and click on Retry
4) After it is done, check and see whether it works.

Another thing you can try is to go to

Start > Run > SFC /SCANNOW > OK

Went through the printui.dll and verified each DLL it
referenced.
Seems
the
problem was with compstui.dll being zero (0) bytes in length.

Solution

1. delete compstui.dll
2. Windows File Protection will ask you to insert your XP disk
3. WFP will then reinstall compstui.dll
4. Properties now displays

Hi,
I dont get any error message at all, just nothing happens.
Right click on the printer\click properties\nothing!
If I right click the printing preferences, a box opens with
"printer"
at
the
top, in the box is a red X and "operation could not be
completed".
The share printer also does nothing.
All other options do as required (open, set default, rename
etc
This applies to my HP printer and the adobe PDF printer icon
and
foxit
printer icon as well.
hope this is enough info?

Hello,

What error message do you get?

What do you mean that you can't change any properties? Do
you
meant
that
you
are able to open the properties page, do changes, but
changes are
not
saved
on hitting OK?

Please be more detailed.

I assume that the "reference" you are talking about is in the registry?

So I guess for some reason the "proper" one is missing?
Worked out the F drive and got rid of the problem, so that wasnt it.
